Sunday, May. 23, 2004 - 12:31 a.m. ConspiracyRequest from a reader: links to any conspiracy theory sites that aren't ass stupid are greatly appreciated My interest in conspiracy theories is twofold: I want to know what’s basically going on in the world and why, the same reason I read the news. I presume the government is lying a large portion of the time, so to get a more accurate picture, I nose around in the margins beyond acceptable discourse. Secondly, I think that if people could glimpse the horror show that goes on behind the window dressing, they might become outraged and stop supporting and acquiescing to the system. I could be wrong about people reacting that way. Maybe they’d just roll their eyes and sigh. I’m not deeply invested in the conspiracy scene, and I’d feel just peachy if it turned out that no conspiracies ever happened anywhere. But for now, tentatively, I think analysis of conspiracies complements an analysis of systems. I do not believe that Bush is a lizard alien. Yet. This guy, Michael Rupert, looks pretty sane. He draws his evidence from news coverage in the major media, and from government documents. He makes a point of keeping his inquiries focused where he thinks they can leverage the most change. In his 9/11 video, he makes several claims that he does not back up, but he backs up most of them. I have seen him, however, make predictions that did not come true. This is similar to the timeline above, but with much more detail. I think Catherine Austin Fitts has uncovered a bunch of fascinating corruption regarding government money and economics. I was fascinated by her claims that the corporate economy depends on laundering huge sums of illegal drug money. I found this radio interview to be both fun and informative on the subject of privatization (which she calls "pirateization": Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 (downloadable mp3's). This one I don’t find particularly useful in any practical way, but if this video footage is genuine, and if this is, as they say, an annual event that George W. Bush attends, then it certainly puts his fundamentalist Christianity in a new light. This shitty-looking website purports to expose a grand deception involving state Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports in the United States. Really dry and boring, but perhaps of great importance. I attended a speech by this dude, Daniel Hopsicker. I thought of him more as an investigative journalist than a conspiracy theorist. He located and videotaped an interview with Mohammed Atta’s (the lead hijacker of 9/11) ex-girlfriend. He showed that the nation’s two largest election companies have ties to organized crime. I had lunch with John Judge once, and he seemed real smart and down-to-earth. I liked the title to one of his books, Judge For Yourself. I liked his common-sense approach to conspiracies. When I asked him the difference between right-wing conspiracy theorists and left-wing conspiracy theorists, he replied that the latter have a class analysis, while the former don't. I should have been able to guess that. I haven’t read his stuff yet. Against Morality - Sunday, May. 01, 2005
