Tuesday, May. 13, 2003 - 6:15 p.m. I'm a Lumberjack, and I'm OkayI question the epistemology of New Agers who claim we can magically manifest our dreams. But gosh darn it if my life doesn’t repeatedly appear to affirm that idea. It seems that whenever I firmly make a decision, new opportunities immediately present themselves. Like in November, on the day I decided that I had to land a job that week, do or die, I got my telemarketing job. And Monday morning, I started seeking new employment in earnest, and 2 hours later, Hydrogen Man was hooking me up with work. I hadn’t even told Hydrogen Man I was dissatisfied with my survey job. I started my new job today. No, I’m not a lumberjack, but close. I’m milling virgin lumber. The Earth First!ers will kill me. The guy who runs the lumber company touts what he does as sustainable, through some convoluted logic I’m not sure I understand. Anyway, the work brings me back to my days at the Twin Oaks Stretcher Shop. It’s really exhausting work, but it pays 9 bucks an hour, and I can get there easily by bike. The lumber job is sporadic, on a day by day basis, so I’m not quitting surveys just yet. Against Morality - Sunday, May. 01, 2005
