I Survived Chuck Palahniuk

Tonight I went to a free reading by Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club. To a standing room only crowd, he read his short story, "Guts". It's one of the most obscene and disgusting things I ever heard. Several people brushed past me during the reading, presumably running to go vomit in the parking lot. I squirmed quite a bit, covering my eyes during certain parts (this was not an effective strategy.) When he was done, Chuck boasted that while reading that story on his book tour across the country, 35 audience members passed out, and two of them had to be taken to the hospital. Tonight, 2 people fainted, bringing his total to 37. So I'll spare you a synopsis of the story. During the Q+A, he tossed severed human limbs out into the audience which were rubber dog chews, but very lifelike. He said that 3 of his other books are getting made into movies next year. I was expecting to be inspired by a guy who seizes life by the nads. Instead, he seemed to be someone who seizes nads by the life.
